Updates

Hi UKSN members

Quick Update

We are still recovering from the hack and still missing many of the old members we had. Hopefully they will notice somethings happened and come looking for us.

///Members///
We still need to keep pushing recruitment - Without members activity's and are going to be very limited. Anything you can do to help recruitment will be massively appreciated.

//SUBS//
Dont forget subs are now live. Look at it as an investment in the group. The more people that subscribe - The more money we can raise now will benefit everyone. All the money will be fed into UKSN allowing us to buy kit and run events. At the moment its just my money upkeeping the group.

Members

We need to build our numbers back up after the hacking incident. Please share UKSN with everyone you know that loves the outdoors. More members = More activity's.

If you are not currently aware you can now purchase membership. Its only £15 but really helps take UKSN to the next level. We need to buy kit so we can offer activity's to the group. Why rent when we can own for nearly the same price. All kit will also be available for paid members to hire - You just arrange collection and return which is very cheap through parcel2go. You can then try before you buy. We will also run events for you to try out any kit we own.

We are nearly fully 'digitally optimized' so in the next few weeks our attention will switch to content.

Active shooter advice

First off i want to offer my condolences to the familys of anyone that was recently killed in the Tunisia attack and offer support to anyone that was affected. Its a vial act of terrorism. I will never understand the mindset of people who carry out these terrible atrocity's. With this at the forefront of everyone's minds below is a guide written by one of the UKSN admin team. The guide deals with an active shooter and breaks down the actions you need to take to allow for the best possible outcome.

Active Shooter Advice
With the recent issues and threats in the UK, Canada, US and Europe about Active Shooters, i thought it might be a good call to review some training in how to deal with this potentially dangerous situation. I'm using the term 'Active Shooter' however these rules would apply when any weapons are used, for example, knives, bats, axes or machetes.
3 Main Elements to Surviving an Active Shooter - Run, Hide and Fight
Run
- Have an escape route in mind - don't run around, pick a direction and go
- Leave you belongs behind - they are replaceable you are not
- Evacuate the area - regardless if others refuse to follow
- Help others escape - if possible
- Do not attempt to move the wounded
- Prevent others from entering an area where the active shooter may be
- Keep your hands visible - Police need to not see your not a threat
- Call 999 when it is safe to do so
- Never re-enter the location until advised it is safe to do so
Hide (if your not able to run)
- Hide in an area out of the shooters view
- Put a physical barrier between yourself and the shooter
- Lock door or block entry to your hiding place
- Turn you phone to silent with vibrate off
Fight (if your are not able to run or hide)
- Fight as a last resort only when you life is in imminent danger
- Attempt to incapacitate the shooter - aim for vulnerable areas
- Act with as much physical aggression as possible (Violence of Action)
- Improvise weapons or throw items at the active shooter
- Commit to your actions ... you life might depend on it
- Keep fighting no matter what - even if you are injured in the process
Information to provide to Police operators when calling 999
- Location of active shooters
- Number of shooters (if known)
- Physical description of shooters
- Number or type of weapons used
- Number of potential victims at the location
When law enforcement arrives
- Remain calm and follow instructions
- Drop items in your hands (e.g. bags, jackets)
- If you are approached by law enforcement - put your hands out to the sides - open palms, fingers apart.
- Keep you hands visible at all times
- Avoid quick movements towards officers - could be mistake for aggression
- Avoid pointing, screaming and yelling
- Do not ask questions when evacuating - just follow the instructions given
A lot of this information is taken from US Department of Homeland security training pack with additions. I have never had to deal with an Active Shooter, but these guidelines fall in line with the response i would expect from the police in the UK as well as the US.
Keeping a cool head in a situation like this would be difficult but if you are able to put these points into action it could potentially increase your chances if you were in this kind of situation
If anyone has any question then do ask - and stay safe out there ...

New video from UKSN and Fatyak

Check out the latest video from UKSN

3 members of UKSN take to the sea to checkout Fatyaks latest and greatest bodyboard - The Hono.
Its in no way a review but just shows how much fun you can have with a piece of well designed plastic. I can 100% endorse the Hono. It hands down beats the other 2 generic boards we had. Handling was fantastic, Quality was first rate and they are made in the UK by the British company Fatyak.
Fatyak are well known for their sit on top kayaks and are now branching out into bodyboards. If you have ever own a Fatyak kayak then you already know how well designed and manufactured they are. This is litrally a Mini Kayak for your chest.

You can buy your very own Hono from only £67.50- CLICK HERE
